The island and its people

Ibiza belongs to the Balearic Islands and is located in the western Mediterranean sea in the Gulf of Valencia. It is the third largest island of the Balearics and is situated about 100 kilometers away from the spanisch mainland and more or less 250 kilometers away from the continent of Africa.

Geographically Ibiza, the neighbor island Formentera and several uninhabited islands belong to the archipelago of the Pitiusas.

The total area of Ibiza covers about 572 km². The maximum extension of the the island is about 41 kilometers from North to South and 24 kilometers from West to East. The capital of the island is Ibiza Town, also called Eivissa. In the high season around the clock many people stroll through the alleys of the old town and the harbour e.g. for shopping or dining in numerous shops and restaurants or to enjoy the vibrant nightlife.

Since 1999 Ibiza belongs to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, especially because of the biodiversity and its charahteristic culture.
