The story goes that the first chapel in the village used to stand on the hill between the present Hotel Sol Beach House Ibiza and the Hotel Catalonia Ses Estaques. On the first Sunday in May there was a huge landslide, which tore the small chapel down into the sea and destroyed everything. So the believers were very lucky because they had just left the church service. Since that day, the community of Santa Eulalia del Rio celebrates that no one was injured or killed on that day and: A miracle had happened.
If you are in Ibiza, come to Santa Eulalia del Rio on 05 May 2019.
At 11 o’clock the Solemn Mass will take place in the church Puig de Missa (also called the „Mass hill“). From here you also have a fantastic view over the whole city and the sea. After the Mass, the highlight of the festival on the main street of Santa Eulalia del Rio, Carrer de Sant Jaume, will begin: a parade with lots of music and traditional costumes, with horses and colorful horse carts, Ibizan Podencos as well as historical cars and motorcycles. Moreover, various stands offer treats to eat and more interesting offers. Furthermore the festive day will end with the big fireworks display at midnight.
Therefore, come by and celebrate this day with the locals!
And if you’re already in a festive mood, don’t miss the next festival in Eivissa (Ibiza town). As every year, the traditional medieval festival “Eivissa medieval” will take place in Dalt Villa. It will begin on 9 May 2019 and will end on 12 May 2019. Take a walk through the alleys of Dalt Villa and let yourself be carried away by the hustle and bustle of that time. A feast for the eyes and the palate.
